Mobile Marketing and YOU!
How long are you able to keep yourself from touching your mobile devices? We are a generation constantly glued to our smart gadgets regardless of where we are and what we are doing. It seems almost impossible to live without these gadgets in our lives now. Our mobile phones are treated as a very private and personal item that we keep important documents, memories, photos, contacts and so on that we hold close to us, it is also used as a tool to get information and help quickly.
According to an article on The Straits Times, Singaporeans spend an average of 12 hours and 42 minutes a day on digital gadgets and a mobile phone takes up an average of 3 hours and 12 minutes in those hours clocked.

That is almost a quarter of the time we are awake in the day!
Here comes the real question, so how does mobile marketing work and why is it needed?
They are ads and marketing efforts shown on mobile devices like our smartphones, tablets, laptops and so on in different forms as they can be tailored to an organisation's specifications of what they want.

With the rising stats and trends of mobile usage, businesses should not ignore the opportunities to tap on the platform that consumers spend their time on scrolling and browsing through. In this day and age, I doubt most people can take a break their gadgets just for a single day without feeling the urge to reach for it. It is a great way to reach out to businesses' target audiences by "accidentally" seeing your ads, making this accidental encounter turn into a potential business opportunity or just to spread awareness of the brand.

Some examples of mobile marketing types:
1) QR codes - quick response bar codes
2) App-based marketing
3) Location-based marketing
4) In-game ads
5) Mobile search ads
These are the most commonly used mobile marketing ads that businesses have been making use of. They are useful in getting the attention of consumers within a short period of time and because it is on their devices, they can even do immediate research about the ads they just saw which might have caught their interests by clicking on the ads itself that directs them to the business's website.

Personally, I feel that there should be additional considerations and strategies when organisations plan to use mobile marketing to make it extra effective.
- Consider who your target audiences are to reach them on the most commonly used apps/functions on their devices and how should their ads be designed to attract attention
- To always be clear and easy to understand
- Make sure that the ads are suitable for the natives/locals in whichever country the ads are targeted at
- Try out different platforms and strategies to find out which are the optimal choices to implement for future marketing efforts
What do you guys think? Are you guys enticed by mobile marketing ads while browsing through your favourite online shopping apps or while playing your favourite games?
Personally, I am always attracted by mobile marketing ads that pop up halfway through my videos or games if they are subjects of my interests e.g. shopping, beauty promotions. It is effective for a consumer like me haha but I think it gets annoying sometimes when it repeats too much and keeps popping up, disturbing my activities on my device. Still, they definitely get to me, sometimes, even giving me something to look at when I'm bored.

Good article worth reading. Phones have truly become a part of most people's daily lives. It is indeed the best platforms for business to get their services and products across to consumers.
ReplyDeleteHello, thank you for reading my post. How has it benefited you personally? I would love to hear about your experiences. :)
DeleteI agree that these days people utilised their mobile phones for everything such that it can be their own “portable laptop” as it’s convenient on the go hence, it will definitely be beneficial to company as the chances of people viewing their ads will be higher. For example, in the midst of watching a youtube video, an ad would appeared and sometimes we can’t skip it and if it interests me i will click on the link and it will redirect me to the page. By visiting the ad, it draws my attention to the ongoing promotion before I resume watching my video again!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the insightful article!
Hi Jiamin! Yes, I agree that it is a convenient on the go laptop for us now. Video ads are such a smart way of 'forcing' you to watch their ads isn't it? Sometimes because of these forced ads, I get trapped into shopping, do you relate? HAHA
DeleteYea, I learn more about clothes, food and events based on social media! I think the web its a great medium to learn and share events especially with just a click away.
ReplyDeleteHi! Thanks for sharing your take on this topic, great to know it's been useful for you. Any downsides you've faced?
DeleteWhen you're on the mrt, look at the people around you. Everyone is using their phone, mobile marketing is the greatest opportunity for businesses to reach their demographic. - Ethan
